1
ועבד אסא דתקן ודכשר קדם יי אלהים :
alhym yy qdm wdkshr dthqn asa webd
So Abijah slept with his fathers, and they buried him in David’s city; and Asa his son reigned in his place. In his days, the land was quiet ten years.

ועטר ית אגורי עממין נכראין ובמתיא ותבר ית קמתא וקציץ ית אשירתא:
ashyrtha yth wqtsyts qmtha yth wthbr wbmthya nkrayn emmyn agwry yth weTr
Asa did that which was good and right in Yahweh his God’s eyes,

ואמר לדבית יהודה למתבע ית דחלתא דיי אלהא דאבהתהון ולמעבד ית אוריתא ותפקדתא:
wthpqdtha awrytha yth wlmebd dabhthhwn alha dyy dkhltha yth lmthbe yhwdh ldbyth wamr
for he took away the foreign altars and the high places, broke down the pillars, cut down the Asherah poles,

ועטר מכל קרוי יהודה ית בסמיא וית חנסנסיא ושדוכת מלכותא קדמוי:
qdmwy mlkwtha wshdwkth khnsnsya wyth bsmya yth yhwdh qrwy mkl weTr
and commanded Judah to seek Yahweh, the God of their fathers, and to obey his law and command.

ובנא קרוין כריכן ביהודה ארום שדוכת ארעא דישראל ולית עמיה קרבא בשניא האלין כי אגח יי ליה:
lyh yy agkh ky halyn bshnya qrba emyh wlyth dyshral area shdwkth arwm byhwdh krykn qrwyn wbna
Also he took away out of all the cities of Judah the high places and the sun images; and the kingdom was quiet before him.

ואמר ליהודה נבני קרויא אלין ונפף שוריא ומגדליא דשין ועברין עד כדי אתכבישו דירי ארעא קדמנא ארום תבענא ית דחלתא דיי אלהנא תבענא אולפן מן קדמוי ואנח לנא מחזור חזור ובנו ואצלחו:
watslkhw wbnw khzwr mkhzwr lna wankh qdmwy mn awlpn thbena alhna dyy dkhltha yth thbena arwm qdmna area dyry athkbyshw kdy ed webryn dshyn wmgdlya shwrya wnpp alyn qrwya nbny lyhwdh wamr
He built fortified cities in Judah; for the land was quiet, and he had no war in those years, because Yahweh had given him rest.

והוה לאסא חילא נטלי עגילין ומורני מדבית יהודה תלת מאה אלפין ומדבית בנימין נטלי תריסין ונגדי קשתין מאתן ותמניא אלפין כל אלין גברי חילא:
khyla gbry alyn kl alpyn wthmnya mathn qshthyn wngdy thrysyn nTly bnymyn wmdbyth alpyn mah thlth yhwdh mdbyth wmwrny egylyn nTly khyla lasa whwh
For he said to Judah, “Let’s build these cities and make walls around them, with towers, gates, and bars. The land is yet before us, because we have sought Yahweh our God. We have sought him, and he has given us rest on every side.” So they built and prospered.

ונפק לותהון זרח כושאה בחילא אלף אלפין וארתכין תלת מאה ואתא עד מרשה:
mrshh ed watha mah thlth warthkyn alpyn alp bkhyla kwshah zrkh lwthhwn wnpq
Asa had an army of three hundred thousand out of Judah who bore bucklers and spears, and two hundred eighty thousand out of Benjamin who bore shields and drew bows. All these were mighty men of valor.

ונפק אסא קדמוי וסדרו קרבא בחילת צפת דלמרשה:
dlmrshh tspth bkhylth qrba wsdrw qdmwy asa wnpq
Zerah the Ethiopian came out against them with an army of a million troops and three hundred chariots, and he came to Mareshah.

וצלי אסא קדם יי אלהיה ואמר יי אלהים לית בר מנך למסעד ביני גברא לבין חלשא סעוד יתנא יי אלהנא ארום על מימרך אסתמכנא ובשום מימרך אתינא על רכפת עמא הדין יי אלהנא אנת לא ישלוט עמך בר נש:
nsh br emk yshlwT la anth alhna yy hdyn ema rkpth el athyna mymrk wbshwm asthmkna mymrk el arwm alhna yy ythna sewd khlsha lbyn gbra byny lmsed mnk br lyth alhym yy wamr alhyh yy qdm asa wtsly
Then Asa went out to meet him, and they set the battle in array in the valley of Zephathah at Mareshah.

ותבר יי ית כושאי קדם אסא וקדם בית יהודה ואפכו כושאי:
kwshay wapkw yhwdh byth wqdm asa qdm kwshay yth yy wthbr
Asa cried to Yahweh his God, and said, “Yahweh, there is no one besides you to help, between the mighty and him who has no strength. Help us, Yahweh our God; for we rely on you, and in your name are we come against this multitude. Yahweh, you are our God. Don’t let man prevail against you.”

ורדפנון אסא ועמא די עמיה עד גרר ונפלו מן כושאי ולא הות להון שיזבותא לאתקימא ארום אתברו קדם יי וקדם משריתיה ונטלו עדאה סגיעא לחדא:
lkhda sgyea edah wnTlw mshrythyh wqdm yy qdm athbrw arwm lathqyma shyzbwtha lhwn hwth wla kwshay mn wnplw grr ed emyh dy wema asa wrdpnwn
So Yahweh struck the Ethiopians before Asa and before Judah; and the Ethiopians fled.

וקטלו ית כל יתבי קרויא דחזור חזור גרר ארום הות פחדא דיי עליהון ובזתו ית כל קרויא ארום בזתא סגיעא הות בהון:
bhwn hwth sgyea bztha arwm qrwya kl yth wbzthw elyhwn dyy pkhda hwth arwm grr khzwr dkhzwr qrwya ythby kl yth wqTlw
Asa and the people who were with him pursued them to Gerar. So many of the Ethiopians fell that they could not recover themselves, for they were destroyed before Yahweh and before his army. Judah’s army carried away very much booty.
